RCNS2-114 Pneumatic Sealer
Signode’s tools are popular in the packaging industry as their tools are durable and long lasting. One of their more popular tools is the RCNS2-114, which is a single reverse notch pneumatic sealer. It is also known as the pistol grip sealer and is very efficient to apply a seal joint onto high tensile steel strapping. This is a very innovative tool with minimal wear parts and can be operated single handedly with ease by the operator.
The RCNS2-114 is a standalone sealer and many industries prefer this tool for smaller operations. It is a very durable and reliable tool and its wear parts are easily available should it get damaged during operations. The tool is made of metal alloys and can withstand harsh strapping conditions.
There are other alternatives to the RCNS2-114. Fromm’s A461 is a good alternative. The RCNS2-114 is popular as it can be used to install street signs, in the construction of oil drilling platforms, chemical plants, water treatment plants, installation of cables and wires and to secure wiring in boats and ships. This tool also helps in minimizing the intensive labor that is required in strapping steel and other products. Since it is a lightweight tool, it saves the operator time and energy in operating the tool and he or she is not easily fatigued.
The only disadvantage of this tool is that it can only seal and a separate tensioner is required to pull the strap tight in order to apply a metal seal at the joint. Presently most industries are switching over to combination tools wherein all three operations of tensioning, sealing and cutting are done in one go. Also, all pneumatic tools have airlines running all over the workroom floor hindering the work of the operators.
There are two feed wheel tensioner that are compatible with the RCNS2-114. The Fromm A452 and Signode’s PN2-114 are equally good tensioners that can tension perfectly. The RCNS tools are used with ¾” strapping too.

PN2-2 Great Stand Alone Tensioner
When it comes to innovative tool designs Signode’s name is at the top of the list. The PN2-2 tensioner is the tool that was recently launched by Signode. As there was a shortage in the number of tensioners that could take in 2” steel strapping, Signode brought in this tool. The PN2-2 has received good reviews in the market and by industry users. As it is a light weight tool, operators find it easy to work with this tool.
The PN2-2 is a tensioning tool that pushes the nose of the tool against that of the seal. This tool is similar to the PN2-114. Many changes have been made to this tool and there is not much difference between both these tools. However, some industry users are disappointed with this tool as it pull only 1600 pounds of tension. They feel that this is not enough to pull metal rounds together.

When the compressing of loads is less, then using this tool would be better. Signode’s other tensioner WP-2 is similar to the PN-2 but pulls about 8000 pounds of tension. It is however based on the windlass style. The PN2-2 is one of the very few tools that can accommodate 2” steel strapping.
In fact many industries do not use stand-alone tensioners or sealers as it cuts into the work time. Many industries have been switching to combination tools as they are faster and to all three jobs of tensioning, sealing and cutting in one go. Combination tools are easier for the operator is who is pressed for time and it is faster and more efficient. This also increases productivity and also cost effective as all the work is done by one tool and the industry need not invest in three different tools.
Since the PN2-2 is not a combination tool, a separate sealer must be used for welding the joint. The Signode NS-250-65L works with 2″ steel strap and applies a single crimp seal. This sealer is useful especially for heavy duty applications. As this tool is lighter in terms of force than other sealers, a manual sealer may be more effective.
